Congratulations to all of our students on a wonderful Spring Recital and Awards Weekend! We had a fantastic Awards Ceremony on Friday night, highlighting and honoring our students for all their achievements throughout 2013-2014. You can see here the placement of the Top Ten students from our STUDIO Points this year. They earned points based on practice times, weekly assignment goals, attending concerts and involvement in studio events and performances. Trophies, medallions, ribbons and certificates were awarded to the students based on their points. A sociable reception with delicious desserts followed the awards program. Thank you to all who contributed to this fun event!
Our Saturday recitals were a success as well and we have the videos to prove it! Students will receive links to their performances this week.
One more week of lessons for this school year, and then the summer fun begins. Looking forward to composer camps and lessons throughout June and July!
We are so proud of our students and their accomplishments this past year! The photo you see is of those students who earned their way into the Top Ten of our PIANO Points contest. Congratulations to Sean O'Donnell for earning first place with 1,063 points!!! This is a year long culmination of points and goals Sean has set with piano. The top three students earned trophies: Sean O. (1st), Mary K. (2nd), and Peter B. (3rd). Wearing medallions in 4th-11th place are: Lili M. (4th), Nathan H. (5th), Isabel V. (6th), Leanne H. (7th), Paige S. (8th), Ben B. (9th) and Hannah W. (10th). These students performed their pieces in the recital following the giving of awards. View more photos of the 5th Annual Awards Ceremony & Honors Recital on Friday, May 10.
Our two Spring Recitals were also a success on Saturday morning, May 11. The teachers started the recitals off with a lively and festive sounding trio - with six hands at one piano! Students performed selections ranging from ragtime to classical to traditional familiar favorites. Each student has an unlisted YouTube link of their individualized performance - parents, if you haven't received your student's yet, please let us know.
Here are a few concert opportunities in February that you won't want to miss! Remember, students earn extra PIANO Points for attendance at musical events like these:

*This may be a little more costly, but is highly entertaining and inspiring to students. Well worth the money! I have seen them in concert before, and they are fantastic!!!
We are back into lessons, starting our second full week in 2013! It was great to see all of our students last week, hear about their holiday adventures, and get a fresh start on new music. Many students (19, in fact!) are hard at work preparing for the upcoming OFMC Festival. Some are entering in two events this year - piano solo, piano concerto, and piano theory. Six are hoping to earn their 15-point gold cup after their performance. It takes a minimum of three years to earn this, if you receive a superior rating each year. We will be featuring these students at our Pre-Festival Recital on February 15, as a means of helping them to be fully prepared for the judging performance. As always, we want to continue to encourage our students to work hard, enjoy making music, and do your very best!!!
The Holidays are quickly approaching, so here are a few reminders of upcoming events:
No regular lessons during the week of November 5-9, however, Make-Up Lessons may be scheduled on November 5-6. Please check with your instructor to confirm time and day, if necessary.
Enrichment Sessions are next week, November 7-8, where we are focusing on rhythm in composing with the title "We've Got Rhythm!" The students had an assignment from the last group class and are to bring this melody with them so we can put a rhythm to it. As always, they will be given an opportunity to perform for one another, and they earn a lot of PIANO Points toward our contest by performing and attending these sessions. We are looking forward to another great time together! Please check the times for your Enrichment Session and confirm with your instructor this week.
OhioMTA Recital at the Wood County Library on Sunday, November 4th, 2:15 pm. A great, FREE opportunity to see other pianists perform of all ages! Teachers from the surrounding area bring students to perform for one another. There are two other recitals like this throughout the year - February 3 and April 14. More ways for students to earn PIANO Points for attendance at a concert!
Holiday Performances will be held December 7th at Come to the Stable, and December 17th at the Sterling Home. Registration for the performance of your choice is available online. Please sign up as soon as possible to allow us to plan appropriately for these events and help set a goal for performance. Both are fantastic opportunities for our students to share their music with the community. At Come to the Stable we provide background music for those looking around at the nativity scenes at Bowling Green Alliance Church. The Sterling Home is set up as a recital for the residents at the nursing home.
Finally, a plug for putting this date on your calendar NOW. Our year-end recital weekend is a very big deal for our studio!!! The Top Ten Honors Recital and Awards Night will be Friday night, May 10, and Spring Recitals on Saturday morning, May 11, 2013. We are scheduled again at St. Marks Lutheran Church for this event celebrating our students' accomplishments throughout the year.
A lot of preparation has gone into this big recital weekend, and we are excited for it to come! The students are ready with their music, and we are looking forward to celebrating their achievements throughout the year. Friday night the awards begin at 6:30, and Saturday morning recitals start at 10:00 and 11:15 am. All events will be held at Bowling Green Alliance Church on Napoleon Rd. Students, please arrive 10-15 minutes before your recital is to begin, so that we can have you arranged in order near the front of the sanctuary. We love seeing our students dressed up and ready for success in performing. You have all worked so hard - keep up the good playing and let's finish this year out strong with enjoyable music!
Three times a year, our students are able to participate in the the Wood-Ottawa County Music Teacher Recitals. This is a local division of the Ohio Music Teacher's Association through Music Teacher's National Association (MTNA). In November 2011, five of our students were involved: Rhys B., Emma C., Eric J., Mary K., and Nthabi K. On April 22, 2012, Hudson P., and Russ T. willingly performed. They all did an excellent job! This is a neat venue to play because of how "live" the sound is in the library. Plus it's a very nice Steinway piano to play. Here are a few pictures from the most recent recital:
Monday, December 19th at 7:00 pm we have a Holiday Recital at the Sterling Home, a retirement community on the northwest corner of Wintergarden and Wooster in Bowling Green. Students should arrive by 6:50 pm, dressed nicely in their "Christmas Festive" attire. Construction is still going on at the Sterling Home, but there should be plenty of parking on the south side of the building. You should also enter on that side, rather than the front entrance. We will have a teacher waiting to greet you at the door. If you have been there before, you will be surprised to see how things have changed! The main entry/dining area where we will hold our recital has expanded and is much more spacious. What a great way to end our piano year - listening to festive music! Please contact your teacher if you have any further questions regarding the recital.
Remember, THREE weeks off of piano lessons for the holidays - but please don't let that be three weeks off of touching the piano!!! We look forward to learning new music in 2012, and want to wish all our students a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
This weekend (Friday and Saturday, December 9-10) is one of our performance events at Come to the Stable - where over 700 nativity scenes are on display at the Bowling Green Alliance Church (1161 Napoleon Rd.). We are excited to share our live music as people from our community come to look at the display. Students should arrive about 10 minutes before their scheduled time to perform. There is no admission fee, but if you would like to bring a few canned goods to contribute to the BG Food Pantry, there is a donation station set up as you enter. Students will need to sign the guest book as they enter the sanctuary, then come to the front near the piano. They will all sit up front until they perform, then they are free to walk around and look at the nativities. Students, please dress nicely in Christmas-festive attire. There will be snacks and refreshments in the back for all guests to enjoy. Music does not need to be memorized, just well-prepared for a performance. If you are unsure of your time to perform, please click here to see the schedule.
The summer piano lesson students performed at the Wood County Public Library on Saturday, July 30th at 11 am. This was a collaborative recital with duets, vocalists and instrumentalists! It was a great day filled with wonderful music. Rewards for practice minutes throughout June and July were also awarded.
Here you will find the latest updates and announcements from the Studio Connection.
