Susan West
Susan has always known music to be a part of her life, as growing up with an elementary music teacher for a mother would naturally lend itself to singing, playing an instrument and attending musical concerts. Her family has always been supportive of musical involvement and encouraged her to use her God-given talents. Beginning lessons at age five, Susan has now been playing piano for over 30 years and truly enjoys collaborative music, accompanying vocalists, instrumentalists, and various school and church choirs. Originally from Temperance, MI, Susan studied piano with Martha McFarland in Toledo, until she went to Cedarville University, studying with Connie Anderson. There she graduated in 1998 with a Bachelors of Arts in Music and Piano Pedagogy. She has also studied under Barbara Wasson, of Dayton, OH and Dr. Steven Glaser while taking graduate courses at The Ohio State University. In 2009, Susan became a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music (NCTM) through Music Teacher's National Association (MTNA). She has been an active member of this organization since 1998. Other professional involvements currently include the Ohio Federation of Music Clubs (OFMC), Camerata Music Club (CMC), and the Ohio Music Teacher's Association (OhioMTA). She is the Bowling Green center representative for The Achievement Program, and has prepared students for these examinations and local festivals for the past fifteen years. Susan is an active adjudicator and has held roles of leadership within the local and state levels of student activities. She was certified in 2008 to teach Musikgarten classes for babies through age five for early-childhood music education.
In addition to managing The Studio Connection and teaching approximately 40 private students each week, Susan teaches two large classes of early-childhood music at the Montessori School of Bowling Green, Musikgarten Classes through Bowling Green Parks & Recreation, volunteers to play piano for the residents at the Sterling Home in BG, and is an active church musician at Bowling Green Alliance Church.
